Description | The introductory chapter situates the present book within latest publications dedicated to research methods in educational research. We show that the present book fills a gap by focusing on the methodological aspects of several research projects conducted by members of the Czech Educational Research Association (CAPV). In light of the CAPV’s mission, we examine and discuss the affiliations of the 242 members of the Association and show that there is a high heterogeneity – the members are affiliated not only with faculties of education and arts, but also with a wide range of other faculties; 18 members are not affiliated with universities at all. We conclude that members include persons engaged in educational research as well as persons from other academic fields and teachers who may be interested in or inspired by educational research. This heterogeneity makes it possible to fulfill the mission of the Association in that research findings can be communicated with practitioners. We identify two sets of contradictions that may shape the development of the Association in the future. First, we discuss the tension between the orientation to excellence and orientation to networking. Second, we deal with the orientation to the global (including internationalization, publishing in international journals) and orientation to the local (such as focusing on the local settings, publishing in Czech journals). We conclude that in the future, it will be necessary to maintain and balance the Association’s activities in line with these orientations. |
