Description | The conference paper, in the form of an audiovisual work, deals with one performative situation that is part of choreographic and theoretical research under the summary title Choreography in Social Space. The artwork, in the form of an indeterminate cultural event (intervention in public space), works with the imagination of visitors in the sense of "what if something happened". We usually understand clowns as someone to amuse us with their clumsiness or to scare us. If a clown is doing no such thing and just looking to his job as a rescuer in case of danger, he may seem a little suspicious to his surroundings. The tension of such an expectation that something will happen turns the situation on its head. The visitors become the ones who may start to act comically, irrationally based on their suspicions, start to create their own scenarios in their heads and act on them, or just ignore it and move on. Thus, the visitor may unwittingly assume the role of a clown, while the real clown acts as if nothing has happened. The intervention is a situation in a public space where the audience, along with random passers-by, become part of the work itself, and their (in)presence also narrates the work. The research elaborated the possibilities of choreography (including inactivity and passivity as movement) in order to activate surrounding institutions and (casual) spectators. It had several phases, taking place in Brno (Lužánky Swimming Pool), Žilina (KioSK Festival of Contemporary Theatre and Dance), Zagreb (FAKI Festival of Alternative and Experimental Expression) and Leipzig (Galerie Helmut) in collaboration with artists Tomáš Moravanský and Kamila Kouřilová. |
