| Description | Looking back at various literary studies and monographs devoted to portraying the Czech literary scene since the so-called Velvet Revolution in 1989, it is striking at first glance that the list of names of Czech women writers is much shorter than the list of names of male writers. In general, the lower visibility of women in the artistic and intellectual scenes is due to a number of different factors, many of which are of a social nature. The same can be observed in the case and, in general, extra-literary. However, this does not mean that in those difficult years there were no women authors who were actively engaged in writing. There were, but at certain stages in the development of the Czech literary scene, some of the women writers, for various reasons, did not move in circles, which were the centre of the decisive events for the further development, and therefore remained on the margins of attention. Only relatively recently have we been able to observe larger-scale attempts to make women authors of the turbulent period of radical changes in Czechoslovak society in the 1990s visible. The aim of this article is to analyse the Czech transition in the work of a selection of Czech women authors. |
