| Description | The first Slavs who settled in the territory of present-day Czech Republic, Slovakia and northern Austria created a material culture which was often closely related to their spirituality. This article defines the temporal and territorial scope which will be examined; that is, Central Europe with its heart in southern Moravia, in the late fifth century until the end of the first half of the seventh century. The main interest of this article is burial rites, which are viewed as a unique cultural feature that can provide key information about the everyday and festive life of a given society. Additionally, the work marginally describes the ethnogenesis of the Slavs and the outline of their daily life. It is certain that the burial rite of the Early Slavs were rich and corresponded to their religious ideas, including their belief that by burning the body, the dead would be able to enter the afterlife. |
