Citation
Description The Second World War continues to remain an important topic in the Norwegian public. The goal of the paper is to present and analyse contemporary Norwegian film production devoted to the war events and compare it to contemporary Norwegian literature. In the last ten years, several films and series related to this subject were released (see for example Kampen om tungt vannet, 2015; Kongens nei, 2016; Atlantic Crossing, 2020; Flukten over grensen, 2020; Den storste forbrytelsen, 2020; Krigsseileren 2022; Narvik, 2022). The paper builds on research on contemporary Norwegian war literature (and theory of occupation drama as a genre (okkupasjonsdrama). I would like to show that when dealing with the topic of the Second World War, literature is more progressive than film. While literature depicts various points of views (such as history of Jews in Norway, forbidden love between Norwegians and Germans, Norwegian collaborates, etc.), the preferred story line of war film remains the same throughout the history and focuses predominantly on hero stories.
