| Description | This article is the text of a lecture delivered on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the Foundation for the Education of Noble Girls in Brno (1654). In 1674, the construction of the foundation house was started by Prince Ferdinand of Dietrichstein. The building, which is still standing today, went through three construction phases in the course of the 17th and 18th centuries: (a) First, in the years 1674-1679, construction took place under the leadership of master mason John Baptist Erna, while the project underwent a more representative transformation during its implementation. (b) In 1756–1757, the rebuilding of the chapel was financed in connection with its opening to the public. The master mason from Brno, Bartolomej Zündter, was the author of the new sacred space and also of the partial alterations to the palace. (c) Finally, in the years 1790-1793, this palace was merged with the neighboring Colloredo-Althan Palace according to the projects of engineer Karl Johann Hromádko and executive master Wenzel Eitelberger. The original foundation house received the same facade and division with high pilasters as was the case with the neighboring house, supplemented by some late style details. |
