Description The paper presents the findings of a review of research study comprising publications from 2010 – 2024 on using artificial intelligence (AI) for intercultural communicative competence (ICC) development. It focuses on AI's limitations in ICC development potential, as reported by the authors of the investigated studies. It discusses the current state of AI technologies, highlighting those that seem to bear potential for ICC development and drawing attention to those that seem counterproductive. Studies on ChatGPT and its use for ICC development within foreign language teaching (FLT) are included in the review.
