Description For several years, the lack of culture-related content in foreign language teaching has been highlighted in discussions on foreign language didactics. In the search for suitable learning stimuli that are both culturally and linguistically relevant, and which could thus make culture-related content didactically fruitful in the context of German as a foreign language, the concept of cultural memory and memory places has been in the spotlight for over a decade. The present text is intended as a contribution to the development of viable teaching concepts in which cultural learning is promoted through memory places. First, the specific learning context at the heart of the article (students of Teaching German as a Foreign Language in the Czech Republic) is outlined. Then, the concept of memory places and the notion of cultural memory are briefly introduced. Following this, the didactic potential of memory sites is discussed. The final part provides two examples of how memory places can be integrated into German as a Foreign Language lessons, based directly on suggestions from participants of a didactic seminar.
