Description The notion "anti-immigrant parties" is not suitable for an effective classification of "anti-immigrant oriented" parties. Identification of a commonly shared element, i.e. exploitation of an anti-immigrant electoral and political mobilisation strategy is not sufficient. The European anti-immigrant parties do not represent an independent party family. An anti-immigrant mobilizing strategy could be promoted, often for quite opportunistic purposes, by parties from various party families. Nevertheles, it is possible to define the anti-immigrant parties as a kind of xenophobic (neo)populist parties. These parties try to combine a genuine permanent anti-immigrant mobilizing strategy, the so called "welfare chauvinism" and openly xenophobic attitudes. The bulk of these parties could be classified as an extreme Right and/or as nationalist conservative formations.
