Description The scaling index method, a part of theory of chaos, was applied to determine the risk mortality in patients after myocardial infarction. The Holter 24-hour ECG recording was obtained in patients 7-14 days after the first signs of myocardial infarction. The scaling index alpha calculation was used. A group of 11 patients, who deceased during 1 year after myocardial infarction, was compared with 7 controls randomly selected from a group of 100 survivals. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated. It is concluded that in our group of patients, the scaling index alpha is better indicator of the risk of mortality after myocardial infarction than the standard risk factor.
