Description The principle of Penaz method and its latest progress are reviewed, e.g. vibration plethysmography which is newly applied for the determination of the measurement of peripheral dynamic compliance. Mechanisms triggering periodical fluctuation in circulation in the frequency range of respiration and 0.1 Hz are taken into account for interpretation of different approaches to the analysis of the heart rate and blood pressure variability in healthy and diseased humans.
