Citation
Description This thesis deals with the cultural reproduction of society. The empirical research was done in working class families and in families with higher education. The research first addresses economic and cultural capital in working class families and in families with higher education, then it goes on to assess values and attitudes towards to school and education in both types of families. The research question is: how and why working class children get working class jobs? The author conducted 12 qualitative interviews with manual workers and 5 qualitative interviews with employees with university qualification. On the basis of these interviews, he answered the question how working kids get working class jobs with the concept of discretion, which is characteristic for the relationships between working class family and school. The concept of coherence was used to characterize the relationship of families with higher educational qualifications to education. On the question why working class kids get working class jobs, the author answers with the different life strategies of manual workers and those with university qualifications. For manual workers, the guiding principle is the typical material strategy; for the high school peoples is typical status strategy.
