Description | Influence of different subjective aspects on aggressive behavior is explored. Personality characteristics contributing to aggressive behavior emergence are identified. These personality indicators of aggression - irritability, emotional susceptibility, hostile rumination, tolerance toward aggression, fear of punishment, and need for reparation - represent one of possible explications of aggressive behavior from personality point of view. Social psychological self and identity protective and assertive motives are also analyzed. Aggression inhibiting factors (norms of politeness, self-esteem) and aggression facilitating factors (justification of aggression, third person role in aggression, anonymity) are discussed in context of self-relation as well. The impact of self motives (self-assertion, retaliation, righteous wrath, contempt, obtain an advantage strengthening individual identity, attribution of intention) is argued. Relations among attitudes toward violence, identity styles, values, and personality characteristics of adolescence were found in the original research study. Their influence on aggressive behavior is not linear, but intricately mediated by intertwined relations among them. Tightness of this relations and also level of these factors enhance a risk of aggressive behavior. |
