Description | In the article, the following argument is exampled in three significant Roman scholarly works (Gellius' Noctes Atticae, Macrobius' Saturnalia and Martianus Capella's De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii): not only works directly designated as symposiatic or sympotic, but many others scholarly writings use the setting of symposium very often (especially in the context of platonic dialogue), so that we can see this setting as a very important, if not the elementary component of their form. |
