Description In the frame of paediatric investigation, the authors also assessed sexual development of eleven years old children within the ELSPAC study (The European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood). In the article, there are described course of sexual development in boys and girls, influence of sexual development to psychic and there are also given some factors that influence sexual development. Tanner scale was used to assessment of secondary sexual signs. Boys showed in this age lower stages of sexual development than girls. Girls with higher level of sexual development (M4) and pubescence (P3-P3) already experienced menarche, there was also closer connection with the development of breasts. Menarche occured in 5,95% of girls. There was also found association between higher level of sexual development of both boys and girls (including menarche) and lower age of menarche in their mothers. Also the association between the age of menarche of mothers and incompleteness of their families in their childhood was found. We can suppose that sexual development of boys and girls in Czech Republic does not significantly accelerate, when compared with previous researches. Trend of menarche in lower age is slowing down since 1960. Stabilisation of average menarche age may precede stagnation of secular trend.
