Description Development of geoinformation technology overruns requirements of most environment inventors but does not satisfy needs of environmental modellers. At least, the homogenous multi-parameter territorial units are accepted as course scenes of various environmental processes and as addresses for optimising measurement location. Four classes of environmental GISs are distinguished: 1) standard GIS with multi-layer analytic database used mostly for inventory, 2) developed GISs with multi-layer analytic and evaluation product database, 3) extended GISs supported by simple expert systems (standard SW extensions) for static modelling procedures, 4) specialised GISs based on modules representing expert knowledge for solving and/or modelling of selected problems.
