Description Several examples of successful applications of different approaches and methods used on selected territories in the Czech Republic are presented. The interpretation of old maps represents the source of data for ancient time periods while the remote sensing data describe the latest period. The data integration from the viewpoint of the format, coordinate system, scale, resolution and logical content starts the data processing. The consequent identification of land use changes supports the analysis of changes time series. Results of analyses are addressed to natural and social economic parameters of areas to understand the regularities of past development and to forecast the future.
