Description Present human society is based on the industrial production which is able to supply different social classes with cheap, useful and desired products. Technological progress together with social, economic and political development pushes industry to improve its production and behaviour as well. Not surprisingly, the abandoned industrial areas cannot be used efficiently again. Post-industrial landscapes have been formed as territorial remnant of ancient industrial ones. While in the most of developed countries they are the products of market changes, Czech and Slovak Republics are dotted with brownfields that are results of an unsuccessful privatisation of huge enterprises in the heavy industry, glass and textile industry, as well as of large agricultural companies oriented on meat production, unnecessary rail stations and tracks, or oversized school buildings. Investors are reluctant to put money into such areas because of large expenses for mitigation of various kinds of pollution, lack of appropriate infrastructure and low social standards and criminality. The government administration must be involved revitalising of the post-industrial landscape characteristic by typical man-made land forms, warm climatic island, pollution, anthropogenous soils, high numbers of domesticated animals and plants. Typical is the structure of built-up areas used (in the past) for the production, housing, transportation and water management. This kind of landscape represents a special example of human heritage and has to be studied before the decision about its fate will be taken.
