Citation
Description The aim of this article is to describe current features of the so-called Roma issues in the Czech Republic, to define the different approaches to managing these issues at the governmental level, and to characterise the strategies used by local governments. The article uses above all the findings of previous surveys, mostly surveys analysing Roma migration, secondly also documents of the government of the Czech Republic concerning Roma integration, and thirdly interviews with representatives of local governments, especially those dealing with social issues. The article explores the Roma issue in the CR in three separate parts, each of which approaches it from a distinct angle – the so-called objective research perspective, and the perspectives of public administration at the central and local levels. The dissimilarities between the three perspectives suggest that Czech society is still only looking for an appropriate stance on naming and addressing the Roma problem.
