| Description | Stratification is a sociologic term. In the Czech Bohemian Studies it denotes the structure of national language formations. The top-level and most prestigious functionality is represented by the standard language. All other functions show various limitations: functional, territorial, stylistical, communicative. The contemporary trend proves for the weakening position of the standard language and significant changes in the spoken Czech. In the western part of the language territory, where the maximum nivelization level of the dialects is present, the co-called Common Czech penetrates. In the eastern part, dialects, regional above-dialect formations and also the formation close to the standard language are supplied. Significant differences are present. |
