Description The author deals with a phenomenon of intergenerational solidarity and she asks a question at what point the ageing Czech society stands in the family support of old people. She follows three main topics drawn from recent social researches: the normative solidarity, personal preferences and expectations, practically provided help to old parents. Based on these data, Czech Republic still holds a fairly high level of a will to care and of a practical help. It is difficult to say what future brings into intergenerational relations. However, the slightly declining meaning of family support in neighbour Germany (representing the western culture to which the Czech Republic heads for) indicates the possible course.
