Description The aim of a pilot survey was monitoring the knowledge about the ED problems among the pupils from selected primary schools and consideration of taking primary precautions. The survey was made with the assistance of an anonymous questionnaire covering the sample of 231 pupils in the second grade in five primary schools in Brno. The results show that boys are more contented with their appearance than girls. To the contrary, the girls know better the cause of ED, they would appreciate more detailed and systematic information. In lessons, the field of ED is presented marginally, that corresponds to rather low childrens awareness of this problems. Considering the improvement and prevention activities, it would be essential to reserve a time for ED topic, discuss with children about their opinions, help them to find appropriate way of defence against media pressure and advertisement, favour the advantages of healthy way of life.
