Description ELSPAC involves about 3500 children born in Brno, Czech Republic. The repeated collection of data in different antenatal and postnatal periods alowes the assessment of trends in health status, social and psychomotoric development among children exposed to cigarette smoke during prenatal life. The significantly increased prevalence of some markers of psychomotoric delay, of non-suitable behaviour, of social problems and attention deficit were found during pre-school age among children exposed to tobacco smoke. Also the school problems were more often reported for these children ( at age 7 and 11) by the teachers who were not informed about their antenatal history and/or physicians findings. The results of ELSPAC study are the another contribution to knowledge about the long-term risk of antenatal exposure to smoking for offsprins.
