Description | The formation of new world order as the result of globalisation, as well as what happened after 11th September, force both America and Europe to re-define national identity and conception of democracy. America strengthens nationalism and presents itself as the guard of world democracy. Those who are opposed to this warn of the risk of civil war, or even of fascism. Europe has got new problems: enlargement, migration, and constitution. Regionalism, nationalism, europeanism, and maybe cosmopolitism are on the rise. It is essential to create space for participation in power, not only institutionally, but also for citizens activity. It is the only way to European civic society. |
