Description | Authors offer several answers to question in title. The efficacy of psychotherapy was confirmed by a series of meta-analysis in history. As a landmark meta-analysis has been often Smiths and Glasss (1977) study mentioned. It involved 375 studies and covered 833 measurement of the efficacy of treatment. Authors mention some current meta-analysis and other evidences that psychotherapy works. Effectiveness of psychotherapy was confirmed also by M. Seligman in Consumer Reports in 1994. The outcome of the study was a result that 87% of respondents stated that psychotherapy was effective and helpful. After many questioning is the Seligmans study echoed mostly seriously in todays scientific literature. Authors notice the distinction among research therapy and clinical therapy. In conclusion, with reference to M. Lamberts overview the article provides some arguments in favor the claim that psychotherapy is effective. |
