Description The subject of the research was variants of modal verb sollen in German dialects in North Moravia. The source of the description was questionnaires used for processing of Language atlas of German historical dialects within the area of the Czech Republic. From the modal verb sollen paradigm were these word forms taken into account 1st and 3rd person singular, present tense, indicative and 3rd person plural, present tense, indicative and past conjunctive in 2nd and 3rd person singular. The examined language area can be divided into three sub-areas on the basis of discovered territorial distribution of language variants. Eastern part (Nový Jičín/Neu Tischein, Opava/Troppau, Fulnek, Odry/Odrau, etc.), north-west part (Bruntál/Freudenthal, Krnov/Jägerndorf, etc.) and western part (Rýmařov/Römerstadt, Šumperk/Mährisch Schönberg, etc.) While comparing the language forms with directly neighbouring Hřebečsko (Schönhengs), it is possible to notice that isolated e-forms or forms with alveolar spirant at the beginning of the word can find quite a great support in Hřebečsko (Schönhengst). In comparison with early new-upper-office German in Moravia it is possible to say that except many differences there is a certain common tendency, namely increasing number of graphem /s/ at the beginning of the word. In north Moravia is this variant the only case of occurrence.
