| Description | On the basis of analysis of selected texts by Ruskin and texts of some postmodern philosophers the article endeavours to give evidence of the validity of the following theses: 1. John Ruskin understood the world strictly hierarchically whereas the value of nature in his interpretation stands higher than the value of human artifacts (although not human or human behavior) respectively including art artifacts. The task and the value of art are to interpret something higher than the art itself and also serve something higher then the art itself. 2. Philosophical-aesthetic postmodern definitions of the value of nature and art stand contrary to the strict nonhierarchical view of the world in which the value of nature and art is universally immeasurable. 3. John Ruskin and the select postmodern philosophers and thein opinions are extremely diverse and therefore Ruskin can be taken neither as the predecessor of postmodern ethics nor as the predecessor of postmodern aesthetics. |
