Citation
Description The public discourse of the visual arts The publication focuses on the question whether the visual arts are the interest of a self-contained community of artists, theorists and art lovers or whether it belongs to the wide public. Much of the current artwork is a kind of social appeal. They present less of a personal statement, and more of a stimulus for the communication about social, political or public affairs. At the same time, many exhibitions attract high numbers of visitors and some works of art stimulate wide discussions. What is called public discourse in this publication is the discussion area into which artists contribute with their work and at the same time art mediators and the general public also enter.
