Description A positive change following a traumatic event, known as the post-traumatic growth phenomenon, is described in different contexts as facing serious illnesses, natural disasters, and terrorism. The paper present evidence, that the demanding care for a child with a disability can foster certain changes in parents, which are later on appreciated to be positive and enriching. Necessary conditions of such parental positive changes are sufficient personal resources and adequate social support. Paradoxical characteristics of the post-traumatic growth concept and its potential benefits are discussed in wider context of care for people with disability.
