Description | The term "health" is very often mentioned in our conversations, it is the subject of many studies and reaserch work and the frequent topic of discussions among friends and medical doctors. The question arises - what the health actually is what does it affects ? World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being of the individual, not just the absence of disease or infirmity. Many different internal and external factors have a stake in our health. Lifestyle is one of the most important, the decisive factor in relation to the health. It is involved in overall health status from 60 % to 70 %. The unhealthy way of life influences the premature mortality, caused especially by cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Nutrition belongs together with other modifiable risk factors into our lifestyle. In addition to rational nutrition, the main function of which is to cover the physiological needs of man in proportion to its needs with regard to age, sex and type of work done, in recent times we are often encountered with the concept of alternative nutrition. It represents a different structure of menus which are somewhat different from the recommended food pyramid. It is often associated with a philosophical belief, with Eastern religions (e.g. part of Buddhism) or the traditions. Some are quite close to a rational diet others may harm the health of the individual. We may include among alternative trends vegetarianism, macrobiotics, nutrition by blood groups, separate meals, Mediterranean diet, Atkins diet and others. |
