Description | States of eastern block have begun their journeys to market economies after the collapse of Soviet Union. Their different success, measured by GDP per capita growth, remains unexplained. This paper tries to explain these differences using hypothesis published by Bockstette, Chanda & Putterman (2002) which claims that state antiquity is a predictor of economic growth. However our results indicate that there is no relationship between state antiquity of states of former eastern block and their economic growth. Besides our results question robustness of empirical verification given by Bockstette et al. (2002). |
