Description The paper deals with the presence of handicapped characters and connected motives in texts in twenty-four contemporary readers for basic schools (edited by Didaktis, Fraus, Nová škola and Prodos) and their depiction in readers for different grades. The author states that the frequency of texts about characters with physical or intellectual disability is not extensive in analyzed textbooks, but their characteristics are in accord with pupils age and it makes the reception of fictitious situations as models with wider interpretation possibilities and may function as a positive condition for inclusive education.
