Description The paper deals with gender differences in depressive disorder, relations between the efficacy of antidepressants and gender and efficacy of antidepressants and age. Mostly no differences in efficacy of various groups of antidepressants between males and females and younger and older patients suffering from depressive disorder are found. However, considering an interaction between age and gender a better efficacy of serotonergic antidepressantst in younger females and older females with hormonal replacement therapy was observed in comparison with males of any age. Obviously a synergism between estrogens and serotonine plays a role. Prliminary results suggest that these differences may not be found in the treatment with dual acting antidepressants.
