Description In 1992, H. Bausinger described the contradictory relationship of Tradition and Modernization in the so-called Kontrastprogramm. The authors investigate two aspects of the Tradition: the conceptual aspect = the Tradition seen as the regulatory model and standard; and the specific aspect - the Tradition viewed as the set of specific phenomena that represent the substance and core of the Tradition. The tradition is determined internally (i.e. - what constitutes the substance of the Tradition, what phenomena create the Tradition), externally (i.e. - what social conditions the Tradition is being carried out in), and functionally (i.e. - what is the role of the Tradition in social life and culture; namely the regulatory role of folklore). The contemporary status and evolution of the Tradition are reflected in its metamorphosis; which is visible namely in the following areas: in the change of the social role of the Tradition, in the decrease of the regulatory and standardization roles of the Tradition, in the increased contradictions between the existing traditional concept of the Tradition and the created “new” Tradition with different substance and transformed to pseudo-folklore or folklorism. The course calls for an extensive in-depth investigation.
