Description Text of the paper examines the way in which texts of contemporary French novelist Jean Echenoz’ approach the typical procedures for the preceding guard (avant-gard) of modernist experimenters. The main emphasis is on questioning the meaning of such puns and the reasons for Echenoz’ necessary ironic distance to the modernism of the “Nouveau roman”.
