Description | The target of present study is to give a description of the current state of affairs in the area of multilingualism in the Czech Republic, focusing on learning and teaching German after English in particular. The first part of the book examines the European and national concepts of language policy as well as their respective implementations which pay regard to the economic priorities as well as to public mood and the current development in schools and the society. A brief outline of previous research on conditions and possibilities of learning of German as second foreign language after English provides the scope for further development of language policy concepts in teaching practice. The second part of the book offers an insight into individual investigations that are relevant for teaching practice. Besides several analyses of textbooks designed particularly for teaching German after English, numerous beneficial topics as well as approaches are introduced which originate in other novel tendencies of foreign language methodology and thus, they promise substantial synergies. A linguistic analysis reveals the potentials of the Czech-German-English language triangle for the teaching practice in the Czech Republic. |
