Popis How can the skill of mediation enrich courses in legal French? What other skills can it develop? How can students benefit from it in their professional lives? The concept of linguistic mediation, introduced into language teaching by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in 2001, was extended and clarified by its Supplementary Volume (2018), which emphasises the social dimension of this language activity. In the professional context, the skill of linguistic mediation very often includes aspects of (inter)cultural mediation. For law students, it is particularly useful since it can help build bridges between different legal cultures and contribute to a better understanding of their specificities (interlinguistic mediation. Also, it facilitates communication between the expert and the non-professional (lawyer and client, judge and parties, etc.), when the lawyer has to explain a complex legal concept in clear and understandable language (intralinguistic mediation). It is this skill that we focus on in the legal French courses given to students at the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University, alongside the other skills it links: reception, production and interaction. In our contribution, we propose to examine the question of how to work with the legal language in the FOS classroom, based on the available reference framework, in particular the CECR Supplementary Volume (2020 French version).
