Description In the context of the current debates on pre-service and in-service teacher education, Institute for Research in School Education, Masaryk University, Brno, piloted so-called video clubs. These are small professional communities of practising teachers who are interested in reflecting on their work and in their own professional development. These communities meet to discuss (with support of the authors of the project) video sequences of instruction (their own or of other teachers’), they share experience, reflect on their teaching, and provide a “mirror” for each other. Video clubs are inspired mainly by work of Sherin and van Es, and Hilda Borko and her colleagues (both teams work with mathematics teachers). This presentation aims to introduce our approach to video clubs as a form of professional development for teachers (of English as a foreign language), their different forms, and to discuss related research.
