Citation
Description The contribution reflects the author’s personal view of the beginnings of psychological diagnostics in the Czech countries after 1950, since as a holder of various professional positions the author also participated on various activities leading to the enhancement of professional competence of psychologists in the field of health, social services and counselling. Among the pioneers in this area one should count the psychologists working in the so-called Sociodiagnostic Institutes (1948-1952). One of the texts documenting the procedures of the first Czech psychologists, as well as the results of their work, is the book called Diagnostika psychického vývoje (Diagnostics of Psychological Development; J. Švancara et al., 1th ed. 1970). The presentations illustrate the publication’s outline, chapter overview, and author profiles. At the time, the publication of the book was hindered by several preconceptions questioning the competence of psychologists in the field of diagnostics.
