Description | This doctoral thesis deals with the integration of meteorology and climate theme into the upper primary school curriculum with an emphasis on physical content of education. In the first part we discuss a problematic terminology and summarize the state of the scientific knowledge of climate change. Furthermore, we analyze the state of education about the climate in the world and in the Czech Republic. We discuss the concept of climate literacy, misconceptions in weather, climate and climate change, defining the objectives of education and investigate the content of climate theme in the educational standards. Based on the analysis of the content of interdisciplinary climate science and its position in the system of sciences we propose a transformation of climate science system into the didactic system of school subjects with a special focus on physical issues. In the frame of this thesis we conducted a reseach on teachers' understanding of the climate system. We designed an extended upper primary school curriculum for teaching meteorology and climate. We also developed a set of sample school activities for meteorology and climate education. The document also contains a set of printable worksheets at the annex. |
