Description | This work focuses the experience with infertility and involuntary childlessness formed and shaped by its medicalization. The goal of my inquiry was to portray how infertility influences life trajectory of an individual; how the conserving and innovating potential of assisted reproduction is expressed during the treatment of infertility; and learn whether actions of those who suffer infertility reflect or establish new norms of reproduction. I used quantitative data to describe the context in which the confrontation with infertility and involuntary childlessness, which are in fact a subject matter of my research, take place. The core body of my work, however, lay in the qualitative data analysis. As the main analytical material, I used in-depth interviews with men and women who had a personal experience with infertility treatment. I presented findings of the qualitative analysis throughout four chapters that represent diverse dimensions of the experience with infertility treatment. |
