Description The risk of a nuclear conflict is still present. Regional war with 100 nuclear warheads would be a disaster for the whole world. The indirect effects of nuclear weapons are far greater than the direct ones. The indirect effects are the sharp drop of global temperature (nuclear winter), the destruction of the ozone layer and other phenomena that would cause collapse of ecosystems and dramatic reduction in global agricultural production. Using advanced computer technology scientists model planetary effects of potential nuclear war. This paper summarizes the state of scientific knowledge in the field.
