Description After a brief presentation of the situation in thies research study related to the formation of sugar beet production areas in the Czech lands during the issue of the 19th century and looking back at the then primitive technique related to growing sugar beet, the attention is turned to the issue of the relationship between sugar beet growing and suger industry as "connected vessels". From the beginning, however, strained relations prevailed among therm. The owners of sugar factories began to create cartel associations through which they tried to dominate the "market" with sugar beet. On the contraty, the sugar beet growing movement established Central Unity as a defensive group, which operated completely in the "direction" of the Agrarian Party; with its help the Agrarians managed to assert themselves economically and politically in the Czech rural areas.
