Description A survey was carried out in a sample of the 9th grade pupils from 3 intentionally selected schools in Brno. The quantitative research survey focused on attitudes and opinions on habit-forming substances and prevention of addictions. An anonymous questionnaire of 25 items was used. The results showed that nearly one-fifth of the sample consisted of tobacco smokers, a fifth of cannabis users. Almost 40 % of the sample drink alcoholic beverages. Most often, drug use has led to leakage from problems and the need for identification with the peer batch. Most pupils trust their parents and can confide their problems, but this does not apply to the school environment. Preventive activities in schools are ongoing, but are mostly formal, sporadic, less attractive for pupils, insufficient motivation for healthy lifestyle.
