Description | This article presents an introductory research forming part of a contrastive study on word order and functional sentence perspective, which is based on authentic language material from the Czech-German parallel corpus InterCorp. It answers theu following questions: • What elements occupy the first sentence position in German? What is the frequency of these elements? • What elements occupy the first sentence position in Czech? What is the frequency of these elements? • Which parallels and differences with respect to the placement of elements at the beginning of sentences exist in the two languages under investigation? The subsequent research will deal with the first sentence positions in terms of functional sentence perspective. The results of the contrastive research will form a theoretical basis for recommendations for the treatment of word order and functional sentence perspective at different levels of foreign language teaching. |
