Description | The paper discusses the theoretical framework of career development in the postmodern world. A constantly “changing world" brings about either a never-ending systematization of career development theories or their renewal in yet another original theory. In theory and in practise, this leads to a constant relativisation of career development and to concentration on the individual and individual’s career and needs due to the influence of the predominant psychological discourse. The aim of the paper is to offer the perspective of social education, which emphasizes two dimensions: social and educational. The social dimension in the sense of the individual development and the contexts that the individual is part of, as well as the problems the society is currently facing (the breakdown of social structures, social exclusion, fear of the social future). Educational dimension in the sense of socialization, prevention, lifelong and community learning. The author shifts focus from the career of an individual towards society as a whole and asks fundamental question: Could the discipline of career guidance be just an anachronism in this "changing world"? |
