Description Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is the method of choice for staging of early rectal carcinoma. In our study, we focused on the benefit of TRUS in patient follow up after rectal tumors resections. Petients between 2013-2017 after rectal tumors resection were examined and monitored at the University Hospital Brno using transrectal ultrasound. 73 patients were included in the trial. The minimum follow-up was 18 months, with a median of 39 months. Loco-regional recurrence rate using TRUS was 15% (11 patients, median to the local recurrence of the disease was 18 months, 73% recurrences were recorded within 2 years of primary surgery. Systemic progression of malignant disease was recorded in 6 patients (8%) with median 28 months. TRUS is a promising method to detect early local recurrence with good chance for curative surgery.
