| Description | This study focusses constructions with the German word es and their Czech counterparts. The teoretical background of this work is the valence theory. The research is based on authentic language data acquired from electronic language corpora, especially from the Czech-German parallel corpora namely the ČNPK and the InterCorp. The beginning chapters summarize the state of research of German "es-constructions". The core of the study (Chapter 6) deals with particular functions of es (pronominal es, positional es, formal subject and object and correlate), defines them, examines their frequency and describes them in detail. Each subpart includes a description of the Czech equivalent structures. The conclusion presents a vision of application of the theoretical results in the German language teaching and learning. |
