| Description | The beginnings of the depiction of the apocalypse in literature can already be found in mythological texts or the Bible. A few centuries later, the image of the apocalypse was transformed into dystopian texts that foreshadowed the beginnings of contemporary science fiction. In my conference contribution, I would like to focus on the beginnings of the apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic narrative that appears in the literary texts of the 19th century. Nowadays, post-apocalyptic science fiction is a popular genre and it is on the rise. The apocalypse has always been, is, and I assume will continue to be in literature. Related to this is man's age-old desire for completeness, the whole, and the need to express the importance of life in relation to time. |
