Description In the present study, we performed a survey in 43 hospitals in the Czech Republic and selected 9 most commonly used disinfectants that are routinely used in health care facilities. Their effectiveness towards nine cytotoxic drugs. The most effective way to remove floor contamination are agents based on reactive chlorine but their broader use indoor is limited because of release of irritating compounds. Further, hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectants were variably effective. In general, removal of carcinogenic CP, which represents a major issue, was highly problematic. The study also identified that alcohol-based agents mobilize drug contamination from deeper layers of flooring material, increasing thus exposure of health-care personnel. In conclusion, for everyday disinfection and - at the same time - periodic decontamination of hazardous drugs, products based on oxidizing agents can be recommended.
